I think I’ve finally got the whole http://www.thewritesteph.wordpress.com thing figured out. Actually, my nephew helped me understand why thewritesteph is still happily chugging along even though I’m not paying. WordPress.com is free…I was paying for the domain name http://www.thewritesteph.com. Ohhhhhhhhhh, now I get it!
Well, in that case, I think I’ll occasionally write on this site, but my main site will be http://www.sweetgumlife.com. It’s self-hosted and therefore has more bells and whistles. But sometimes I just like the simplicity of this free site, right here.
I am, however, going to direct you to today’s post. I wrote the first part of a suspense story right here.
Hope you’ll drop by and tell me what you think. No, really…I could use some constructive feedback.
Thanks, and hugs,
Hi dear Readers,
I just need two more followers to reach the next power of 10!
I’ve got lofty goals for our 2017 readership, so keep up the good reading!
I invariably have library fines at any of the four libraries that I frequent. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t take spending money lightly. (Who does, now-a-days!) But at least the money goes to supporting the libraries.
Here is a list of books that I’m either reading or ones that are stacked on a table, ready for me to read when I have a spare minute:
I’ve read this a million times and it’s on my Kindle. I’m only reading parts of it right now to study her outstanding character development and descriptors.
I’ve read this several times. There are places in the book where the characters’ morals and mine clash, but I like this one because of its intrigue!
I love reading about Tony Dungy and his family. Tony Dungy is a great family man and a devoted Christian husband.
Motivational books that I’m reading to keep me on track with my writing.
Always looking to learn how to improve my writing and my semi-technical knowledge.
I once worked at a corporation where the upper management just couldn’t figure out their mission statement. Did they want to make widget A or widget B? They were struggling with their corporate identity.
Well, I’ve been kind of the same way about my blog. I mentioned my quandary to one of my friends with journalism and graphic design experience. My problem was that I was running out of memories and photos of me growing up in rural south Alabama.
“Well,” said my friend, “You were growing up in rural south Alabama…and then you grew up. End of story.”
Sage words, to be sure, and very much appreciated. So where should I go from here with my blog? That’s when I decided to tweak my header title just a bit. I came up with “Life and Culture with a Little Alabama Twist.”
I like writing about casual observations and thoughts about what’s going on in the world around me. It’s from an Alabama wife/mom/writer’s viewpoint. Really, it’s what I’ve been writing about all along. I promise not to keep changing my look and my mission statement a lot on you, here, but I’m going to be experimenting a bit. Just to have unity, consistency, and harmony.
And isn’t that what we’re all striving for?
