Pimentos for Christmas

Pimentos for Christmas

Each year around Christmas, I give my husband a picture wish list of what I want from Pimentos. My friend Teresa owns the unique little gift shop, located in Athens, Alabama.

Okay, Lefty, here’s my wish list! 🙂

Sold the Farm

Barn ornament
Ever heard the expression, “He sold the farm?” I think it means someone sold something way under value. As you all probably know by now, I’m from a farm in southwest Alabama. We didn’t have a red barn like this, but I can now if I get it for Christmas! (Hint, hint!) ;-p  Pimentos has a lot of these cotton ball stems in their store.  I find it very apropos for the little Athens store since several of my Athens relatives had to pick cotton for a living back in the 30’s and 40’s.

Charms, Glorious Charms

Pimentos has charms of all shapes and sizes. I especially like their pearls, since I’m a pearl girl.

This is only a small sample of Pimentos charms. They have charms of crosses, animals, hobbies, and letters. I think I got my niece a rhinestone initial one year.

These gold Christmas trees are so elegant. Arrange three together, add some cotton stems, and display with some twigs and pine cones from outside.  Oh, so pretty!

Note: I didn’t receive anything for promoting Pimentos in Athens, Alabama. I just hope you’ll stop by because Teresa is a sweet friend of mine, and I love her locally-owned store. If you had to choose, what is your favorite thing from the Pimentos pictures.

Tinsel Trail, the Greene Street Market at Nativity, and Harrison Brothers

Baby, it’s cold outside, but a trip to downtown Huntsville to play with my Nikon was definitely worth getting out in the big freeze.

Yesterday I bundled up and went to take photos of Huntsville’s Tinsel Trail that Huntsville has hosted for the past 6 years. The trail is lined with beautiful Christmas trees decorated by local businesses and organizations in town. The organizers give the decorators specs on how they can decorate. For example, the ornaments and lights all have to be weather proof for the 30 days that they remain outside.

There are about 250 trees out there, or at least that’s how many they expected to host this year, according to their web site.

My favorite tree was the one that had the Grinch stuck halfway inside of the tree. I also really liked the one with the festive tree topper.

Afterwards, I went to the Greene Street Market at Nativity to warm up a bit. The market is located beside the Episcopal Church of the Nativity, which I like to photograph a lot.

The market features locally-grown food and gifts that are hand-crafted by artists. They have got so many cute gifts!

I also visited one of my favorites, Harrison Brothers. It used to be a hardware store located on the courthouse square. Now you can find all sorts of gourmet foods, relishes, and jellies made by local artisans. There are gifts crafted by local and national artists that you just can’t find in a department store. And it’s pretty cool to walk on their old wooden floors that sqeak now and then and to see Mr. Harrison’s desk encased in glass at the back of the store. Every 1st and 3rd Saturday for a few hours, you can go buy architectural goodies in their basement, which is run by volunteers of the Historic Huntsville Foundation.

I want these!

I want these, too!

Tomorrow is Open House at Harrison Brothers! It’s the perfect time to go make your footprint on the floors that we only wish could tell their story!

From their web site:

“We will be offering free gift wrapping, hot cider, light snacks, and some exciting sales and deals.”

*** BTW, I received nothing for blogging about Harrison Brothers and the Greene Street Market at Nativity. I just love their stores!

Last-minute Shopping, and Heavy-weight Wrapping Paper

Santa_lantern_edited-1

This morning while Princess Buttercup was in a class, I hurried in to a new store in Madison, Alabama called NEST Décor. I had to buy an ornament (or the like) under $10 for our church ladies’ ornament exchange Monday evening.  (Which will be lots of fun, as we play “Dirty Santa” and munch on Christmas treats!)

AngelswehaveHeardonHigh

I won’t tell you what I bought, since (hopefully) some of my blog followers will be attending!

Anyhow, you definitely need to stop by NEST Décor, cuz I found something really cute there, and they’ve got lots of lovely last-minute Christmas (and other days of the week) décor. All of the Christmas décor photos on this page, in fact, came from NEST Décor.

While, you’re at it, I found some truly heavy-weight wrapping paper. Those of you who have a lot of presents to wrap know what I’m talking about. It’s nutty how some of the big box stores write “heavy-weight” on their paper-thin wrapping paper.

But today, dear Readers, I found some at T.J. Maxx that was really heavy-weight. WTG T.J. Maxx !

I will be sending a missive to both T.J. Maxx and the big box stores. One will be a “thankyouthankyouthankyou!” note, and one will be a “fire your marketing guys” note.  Not that I’d really want the marketing writer fired…that wouldn’t be nice, now would it?
