Thanksgiving Day — Set Aside to Praise God

Charlie_Brown_Snoopy_Thanksgiving

One of my favorite holidays is Thanksgiving Day.  I love to get together with my extended family, enjoy a big feast, play games and catch up on how everyone is doing, and to praise God for blessing us in so many ways.

It is my prayer that God will grant each of you lovely Readers a very blessed and happy Thanksgiving.

Psalm 95:1-5
1 Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord;
let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.
2 Let us come before Him with thanksgiving
and extol Him with music and song.
3 For the Lord is the great God,
the great King above all gods.
4 In His hand are the depths of the earth,
and the mountain peaks belong to Him.
5 The sea is His, for He made it,
and His hands formed the dry land.

Thanksgiving Proclamation

“Issued by President George Washington, at the request of Congress, on October 3, 1789.

“By the President of the United States of America, a Proclamation.
Whereas it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor; and—Whereas both Houses of Congress have, by their joint committee, requested me ‘to recommend to the people of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness:’

“Now, therefore, I do recommend and assign Thursday, the 26th day of November next, to be devoted by the people of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being who is the beneficent author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be; that we may then all unite in rendering unto Him our sincere and humble thanks for His kind care and protection of the people of this country previous to their becoming a nation…

“Given under my hand at the City of New York the third day of October in the year of our Lord 1789.”

P.S. Be sure to go see the new Charlie Brown movie in the theaters. It really is a good movie without the usual insipid potty jokes that are in many of the kid movies of today. It’s true-to-form, and I think Charles Schulz would be really proud. I laughed so hard at some of Snoopy’s antics, and I really liked the winding phone cords attached to the telephones and the real typewriter that Snoopy used.
